Katarina Witt began to ice skate when she was five. The talent she displayed soon became apparent and she was accepted into a school specifically designed for children with a talent for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. She met Jutta Muller here. Witt was able to make her debut year in 1982, when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. From that moment on the elegance and grace of her skating captured the eye of all. She began to dominate this particular sport. Olympic Erfolg at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's after a fiercely contested contest. Four years later she was able to win an even tighter contest. In fact, she was not a winner in the free skating contest but won gold based on results during the compulsory figure and short program. Witt is the only repeated winner in women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes in her acting career however she returned to figure skating in order to compete during the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Although she did not win an award for gold, the young skater impressed the crowd. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
